hi people, i am new to the this forum so i hope i got this in the right place.

i need some help identifying a couple of things i have noticed about my plants, as i have first started growing plants this year and have very little knowledge in general about this sort of stuff.

The first is something growing on the stem of my tomato plants- it looks kinda like acne bumps with a black bit at the end of some of them. i have taken a picture as its alot easier than describing it.

The second thing i have noticed about the plants have been growing from seed is that some sort of fungus (i think) has got in the soil. i have no idea what it is, so i'm hopeing someone can tell me whether it can be cured. It has attached itself to the bottom of a few seedlings and killed them and seems to have spead pretty quick. It is quite hard to get a good picture of itas my camera doesnt seem to focus well on close ups, and they are very small millimetre ish sized lumps. They are the yellow bit in the last picture and sometimes can look slightly orange.

Thanks for any help in advance as i'm slightly worried because i plan on eating the food and im hoping its not all infected or something.

    Hello & welcome growth.

The tomato bumps are just their normal growth, so no need to worry.

I can't really make out what the fungus problem is from your photos, sorry.

:cnfs:I am guessing as i don't do so much gardening now a days but it does look like mildew.Hopefully someone will come along and help :)

Regarding your soil.Again, not 100% sure.It could be either salt deposits from hard water or mold. If it is powdery and under close inspection looks like it has filiments or micro strands it is a mold caused from overwatering. You could try a fungicide. Make sure there is good drainage.

Hope this helps until someone wiser comes along :D.

The bumps on the stem are just roots trying to grow.
Toms do that, earth up the stems and the roots grow, leave them alone and the roots wither

I dont think the last pic is fungus, if it is I'm sure its harmless.
    Fingers crossed:)

Agree with Aesculus 3rd picture looks like liverwort caused through excess moisture, I think David is looking at something else.

Yes the last photo is liverwort, well done Aesculus and Pete - also an indication of being a bit shady, again its nothing to worry about.
