I know Jerusalem Artichoke is a root vegetable (grew them in my last property) and this year I have a couple of courgette plants which I understand are all above soil action.

So: would a planter containing the two "work"? Even for just *this* year?

    Thank you.

It is doable in a large planter of, say, 1 square metre, although it will not be ideal for the courgette.

You would get up to 10 Jerusalem Artichoke and 2 courgette plants in the square meter. Locate the tall growing JA plants at the back where they will not shade the courgette plants.

It will not be ideal for the courgette plants because they need good spacing and airflow around them to prevent powdery mildew.

Watering and fertilising requirements are roughly the same for each type of plant.

Need too be a very big planter @"M" .. I have tried courgettes in all sorts of containers and the bigger and deeper the better I found.. They are very hungry thirsty plants if you want a crop.. I used to grow them in potato bags successfully 2 plants to a bag and never let dry out, but not successfully in anything smaller.. I have not grown JAs as we do not care for them.. Would they fit in with the potato bag idea.? If so I would go for a couple potato bags.. Hope that helps.

Thank you @misterQ and @Marley Farley for your sage advice; taken on board and will have a rethink. I do have other containers so I could easily keep them separate which, on balance, would suit their requirements much better
