hi, we have just two months ago moved into a new build house, a few weeks after moving in, we came downstairs one morning to find the patio and the living room full of maggots!! our bins were clean and couldnt find any dead matter anywhere, anyway a few weeks after that my two year old was digging up the three inch border around the patiod area of our garden (which is basically soil with stones laid on top, no mebrane or anything!) and he dug up tonnes of maggots???

i have spent the last two days digging round the patio and have found approx 100-150 in a very small space, i have killed the ones i found and poured as much boiling water as i can onto the border area, but have gone out to inspect today and there are more of the little blighters!! my question is where on earth are they coming from and how do i get rid for good! there are no plants in the garden just newly laid turf and the ground underneath is clay (only know this as the back gate started sinking and the builders told is its because of the clay!!) any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

    Welcome to Gardeners Corner Zoena,

    Blimey, sounds like a nightmare.

They must have come in with the topsoil if it is a newbuild. Whatever they are feeding on will get used up soon & the frosts will take care of them soon.

Got any pics so we could get an idea what they are?

It seems you are not alone.
Here is a link to help identify the maggot, thereby try to isolate the source.

      Maggots

You can ask questions to him as well.

      Good luck
