My next project is to try and keep out my neighbours wilderness. We have two single men as neighbours each side neither of them have any interest in their gardens or outside spaces and as a result our fences have been totally destroyed by the enormous weight of ivy and bindweed coming over from both sides.
Being an easy going type of girl I recognise their right not to have to garden if they don't want to and to be honest my cats love the wilderness gardens each side and neither neighbours care if the cats go in there which is always a bonus! They have said I can dig up any ivy roots etc along the border of our fences on their sides.
I'm trying to find some kind of fencing that will keep their wild gardens out up to a point. I was thinking of laying some heavy concrete base panels and posts and then putting in wooden panels which can be easily replaced if they get inundated again. At least the concrete should be pretty much impervious to ivy. Will keep you posted with pics asI get the fencing put in but any suggestions would be welcome :dbgrtmb:

Thanks Louise, I just realised I mentioned the dreaded C word (cats) sorry :loll:
I say I don't mind but I've just been out there and have just dug up about three meters of bindweed roots from the end of my garden where the overflow from the other gardens is the worse. There was some muttering under my breath I have to say :)

Gardening is hard enough, you have enough weeds of your own without clearing the neighbours .
I think a discreet systemic weed killer a few times would be my option . It might not kill it but it would keep it at bay.
If they said anything I would tell them to "man up" and get the garden tidy.
It's not compulsory to like gardening or have a nice garden but it is your responsibility if you have a garden to keep it tidy.

I too would go with the liberal amounts of weedkiller. I like the fence idea, and yes its damaged, but a new fence will give the weeds more to grow on.

I've been known to occasionally accidentally spray my next door neighbour's neglected garden (at my last house), while accidentally leaning right over the boundary hedge, or accidentally pushing my arm through the hedge with the sprayer still in my hand having forgotten to put it down.

I'm sensing a touch of deja vu with this thread. :)
