This grows in our neighbour's garden. We think it is a wild plum.

The fruit is very small - slightly less than 3/4"

The tree is very large - at the bottom of the picture is our privet hedge at a height of 7ft

    Thanks :)

I was sitting in the queue at the local tip about two weeks ago and these were growing in the hedgerow.
The hedge was mixed and these looked to me like a yellow version of sloes or what ever those purple things are that fall off all over the roads at this time of year.

    Blackthorn.

Mirabelle looks like it :blue thumb: but the tree looks a bit large . I suppose it could have just grown well.

With the amount of fruit it must drop perhaps it's self fertilised the soil and gone a bit mad?!

Bit late for Cherry/Mirabelle Plums. The last ones round here fell to the ground weeks ago (made plum chutney with them).

If it's tart then it's more likely to be (ungrafted) Bullace.

Can't see any more on the tree (from my side of the hedge) and am not sure whether I wish to taste it. I'll put on my brave face and give it a try - if I can remember where I had put it. :heehee:

Found it and ate it. Reasonably sweet. So do I consider it Mirabelle? :)

Kumquat is not really hardy enough.

Sorry, can't say as I didn't take notice of it and Mrs S. has dumped the bin into the wheelie bin that goes out tomorrow. :noidea:
