:snork: I find beer traps to be very effective when i'm gardening outside of the EU of course;). They also give the Hedgepigs a nice little nutritious "soup"

Nemaslug/Nemasys is fairly mainstream and is readily available from several horticultural suppliers. I've not tried it but may give it a go on my maincrop potatoes this year as about 10% of last year's crop had slug damage.

As I have an invasion of mutant Slugs & Snails who won the battle last year, I was thinking about Nematodes this year (as I wont use slug pellets because of frogs & birds in the garden).
Has anyone has any success with them??

        Ta :)

I have some on order so will let you know how it goes. I understand it takes a few weeks to really show the effects. I'm the same as you - resist using pellets or pesticides for the sake of the birds. We get precious few of them in Wimbledon after all...

I agree with not using the slug pellets that turn the snails into a green froth (Yuk) and don't like the idea of the salt but I use the Advanced Slug Pellets - "safe for birds, animals and hedgehogs - organic" it says on the pack - priced at over £6 a tub (as opposed to a couple of quid for the other stuff) My understanding is that they eat this stuff and don't feel hungry - hence leave the plants alone. Are you saying this is also harmful to birds etc ? My assumption was that the extra cost was for this safety assurance.
