I'm sorry if this is in the wrong thread, please move to the correct one if it is, because I can't figure out where to write it. Thank you ...

I am trying to find a netting that would stop birds flying into my shed, but without blocking the flow of fresh air.
I have looked on line but everyone wants to sell me a shed, or safety netting or shade netting :frown:

The reason I'm asking is that I've got a bird phobia (ornithophobia it's called) and a bird has flown into my shed this morning.
Even though I asked someone to open the windows for me, the bird is still in there, and I can't go in until it has flown away.

I don't want any more birds in my shed so I need netting to stop them flying in, but I still want fresh air to flow through. I may have to go to B&Q or somewhere to get it but I thought I'd look to see what there is available.

Can you just get some wire netting/ chicken wire and nail it over the window.

Michael I have some builders safety netting - I can send you some so you could make a door curtain if you need. There is also a version of netting sold for windows that has stick on magnets at the edges to hold it in place. Just look up window fly screen on Amazon.

Now that's an idea @pete, thank you.
The other thing I'll have to figure out is how to attach it because the windows are uPVC, and I'd also have to think about how I'd close the windows if the netting was permanent.

Thank you @CarolineL, I think the spaces in the safety netting are too big, and small birds could get in.
I'll have a look on Amazon for the window netting with magnets, Thank you.

@Michael Hewett How about something like this

      Climbing Plant Support Mesh - 50mm x 50mm - Green

I'm sure you can find a way to fix it on the inside of the window so it doesn't get in the way of opening it. If the shed is wooden it can be pinned to the wood beside the window frame.

This one is 50mm which is about 2". If you wanted smaller mesh it is available.

Or even insect mesh which is much smaller.

Extruded Insect Mesh 1m by the Metre - Green

I haven't looked for any other makes.

      Good luck :dbgrtmb:

@shiney thank you, I've got some rolls of that type of thing in the shed :dbgrtmb: Now why didn't I think of it ?
Ah, I know ... because I'm daft :heehee: ... and I've got some with small holes too.

The 'shed' is an old garage with the door bricked up and built from concrete blocks, but I'll think of some way to fix the mesh.

You can use a string with some silver foil attached or an old cd. You shouldn't need a physical barrier just something to scare them away. We have old metal pie dishes, like Mr kipping comes in, hung from our apple trees at the moment because the sparrows pull off the flower buds. They work a treat and don't stop air flow.

I use CD's hung from my bean poles to keep the pigeons away.

I haven't got any CDs I'd want to do that with, I use them for listening to. Silver foil or old pie dishes are a good idea though ...

I've got lots of old computer drivers for things that went out of date last century  People also gave me a load when I spread the word that I needed some. They protect my 200 bean plants. :hate-shocked:

CDs and DVDs are sold very cheaply in charity shops. Just be prepared to be embarrassed if you buy full season of a five year old reality show DVDs

One of those should be easy to fix on a string even onto a UPC surface with self adhesive hook or double sided tape. Amazon has plenty of options like this .

For the door, a kind of insect curtain made of strings of materials should do the job. It can be fastened to one side when you are walking in and out and let hand loose when you just want to leave the door open. Some quick ideas: Bead curtain posh Magnetic one

Birds definitely don't want to fly in so will appreciate a visible warning to slow down and change their fly path to avoid your shed. A hanging CD or DVD or an old Christmas bauble should do the thing. :)

                    Problem solved !
I used the wire shelving from inside an old one of those plastic plant growing 'greenhouses' with zips. The 'greenhouses' have gone but I kept the wire shelving - I knew it would come in handy for something :dbgrtmb:
