Never seen anything like this before

Ladybirds on our runner beans at 10am this morning.

Same spot on runner beans 5 hours later.

 

It was a no contest. but suprised that theres no sign of the blackfly.
Lets hear it for Ladybirds :yho:

 

Thats a lot of ladybirds. Never seen so many in one place.

as all i have seen this year is about 6 :( music

 

NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS.
It's great to see the ladybirds doing their work and generally I love them but a few years ago I was in St Malo, Brittany, and the ladybids were feet thick on the ramparts (like the worst infestation of blackfly of your nightmares) and inches thick on the pavement where you were walking.Never seen anything like it. Horrible, just horrible.
Anybody seen anything like that ?

 

I think I was there the same year.

Came back to the car and you couldn't see what colour it was for ladybirds. Had to clear the windows before driving off and even then they were 'snowing' off each car as it drove along

yeuk!

 

That's why its good to attract insects to your garden:luv:

 

I grow my runners in disused growbags which have been cut in half and set like buckets, last year I purchased a plastic compost bin and filled it up in the autumn, so this year my bags and pots were using compost only. Perhaps thats where the ladybirds came from.

 

Wow how amazing is that. I have never seen such a colony of ladybirds. Thanks for sharing

 

Last year in Norfolk, much the same thing. Fields were red with masses upon masses of Ladybird corpses. They covered everywhere like snow!

 

I saw my first Harlequin Ladybird yesterday, should have squashed it but I let it go. They will eventually irrradicate the native ones shown in your pic. If I see one again it won't be so lucky.

 

So that's me, Hec and Archdoodler who have seen the Ladybirds inches thick.
I don't know whether we are blessed or cursed.
