    Hello everyone,

Great to find a friendly corner of the internet for allotmenteers! Looking forward to joining in.

I rented my first allotment at the start of the year, and it was the best thing I could have done. I love my job beyond anything but the kind of chaotic balance that the allotment allows me is the perfect antidote.

I am trying to stay as organic as I can, though I can see a marestail problem arising that might tip me over to the dark side. I'll try any organic suggestion first though!

I'll put a few pictures of my progress so far, but my main 'problem' is the incredibly fertile compost left over from the previous owner. It grows my seedlings just fine but it also grows everything else!
I've grown the basics before but having gotten drunk on seed catalogues in February I found myself growing a few varieties, of which i have little idea what the seedlings are supposed to look like!
I'm struggling to identify which seedlings I need to prick out and which to re-pot into more stable soil. If anyone can shed any light, I would be incredibly grateful!

Can anybody identify from this picture which is supposed to be antigua aubergine? I have another similar for ivory aubergine.

also, my melon shoot seems to be stuck to the original seed. Am i being ridiculous or is this normal?

and this tree was growing here when i arrived, now it's in leaf I have tried tree identification websites but they each lead me to a different tree! Any ideas?

    Any help gratefully appreciated!

If anyone's interested, here are some thumbnails of the allotment so far!

      Welcome to Gardeners Corner :sign0016:

The Aubergines are possibly the broader leaved seedlings. The Melon will sort itself out :)

They all look like weeds, Fat Hen, Buttercup, Stinging Nettle, Bindweed and Speedwell perhaps. Did you use seed compost?

I used a mixture of garden soil and compost from the bin left behind by the previous owner. Possibly a mistake! Well, if there are no aubergine in there I shall cut my losses and try again next year! Thanks for getting back to me!
