Sounds like a good choice Robert, I have a Panasonic fz7 which has produced some fairly good pics but it is no good at macro.

It certainly looks a good camera Robert after the reviews I've just read on Amazon.
The Extra optical zoom can go from 18x up to 22x far better than mine (better for birds etc).
I look forward to seeing some of your pics as it just might persuade me away from a future purchase of a DSLR.

    Hi Dave
One big reason I like it at the moment. Its an alll in one kit.
No hunks of glass to hump around. Does it for me.
I have done the usual zoom demo bit and macro shots, I shall be posting shortly

Ok here we go with the boring zoom pictures.
The originals are at the full 12.1 MP at 4000x3000ish
reduced to 1000x668 and then further reduced for posting.

Spot the aerial in this picture.. thats our target
    This at x1
    [IMG]

    Now at full x16 optical.

Now at the extreme of the digital zoom at x72
    [IMG]

A few macro coming in nexr post

Here we go. Three macro images taking in the shade just a short time ago.
Once again the originals are 4000x3000 reduce down for posting

    First is the humble bee
    [IMG]
These next two are the tiny hoverfly.
I reckon I could improve these if I get some sunlight on the scene. Go for 1000sec and a bigger DOF
    [IMG]

This Leica lens seems to be the DBs with a close focus at x3 macro at 1cm and of course to infinity.
Camera inself? Well, its got all the setting I need, thats for sure
Going to try for some more macro of the same subject when the suns comes around.
    Watch this space.

I'm very impressed with those shots Robert the macro end of the scale is outstanding, but what really does surprise me is the quality of the digital zoom, it's amazing. I've always avoided using it in favour of digital 'zooming' using software on the PC which hitherto has been generally assumed to be better. However it looks like Panasonic may have upped the ante somewhat :thumb:
