If anyone has Any questions about anything that changed Since the New Software updates last night please feel free to ask here, and I'll do my best to answer

 

Don't like the new layout at all.

Can somebody explain in detail the use and need for $GC, Postbit and Rep Power.

Why do we need the "bookmark" strip and what are "Tags" about

I notice that when I send a PM my $GC increases by 2 why? and what use is it?

What use is the "Add to xxxx's" reputation, and why is there then not a facility to reduce xxxx's reputation?

The layout can be reverted to the old look from your usercp

Edit options > Default postbit > and tick you prefer the old look

Reputation is a feature thats just been enabled, it allows people to add to someone elses reputation and if Nathan wishes an option to remove from it

Rep Power means how much your rep is worth good or bad

if your rep power was 5

then everyone you add to their reputation would gain 5 rep points (you would not lose them to give them

if you took away from their reputation (for a bad post etc) then they would lose 5

$GC is a points system, every post earns them

Nathan wants to add some fun features to the site like an arcade to play games etc (pong, pacman etc)

the $GC is like old fashioned fairground tokens they are used for playing in the arcade and other features to come

as for what of the current look is staying, changing etc I can't say as i'm only a Tech Support Freelancer

 

Oh As for Tags and bookmarks they were enabled by default with the update, if Nathan wants them off we can turn them off

a tag is used to add a keyword to a topic

which can be handy for people searching for threads

say i had a thread called

Fish for Sale! or Fish Wanted!, or just about anything really

i could add the Tags

like
Fish , Tropical , Uk based , etc

so anyone looking for
Fish, Tropical , Uk based etc

would find my thread

on my forum I run a star wars section and one of the threads has these tags

So anyone searching for any of those words could in theory find my thread about star wars

as for bookmarks
they are something which some people use alot, others not at all, a bookmarking site is like Digg

its like a notice board

when you "digg" a thread or post it makes a small sample of the post and a link to the post appear on the website Digg

meaning anyone looking for that topic may find this site from that notice on digg (kinda like a newspaper clipping may be at an office notice board)

if its not something Ya'll like then we can get rid of it

 

How about an option to turn off Bookmark and Tags strips if we don't want them?

What if your rep power is 0, presumably you can't add to anybody elses rep, so how do you get off zero in the first place?

Also I note that although ~I have selected Vertical postbit, new posts start in horizontal until page is refreshed, is this a glitch?

i think that will be very possible yes for the ability to switch off the tags, etc

today my time is alittle scarce as i'm working on my own forum, we're changing servers

 

as for the vertical postbit i think if you hit ctrl and f5 together and hold for 2 seconds

it will update your cache and should sort the needing to refresh issue

 

ctrl F5 had no long lasting effect, acted just the same as a refresh, have to refresh for each post or ignore it and move on to another thread. Annoying rather than anything else.

Further info, it only seems to happen when using quick reply, not advanced!!

 

i'll look into it mike will have to be tomorrow at the earliest most likely as currently i'm moving over 15.000 files to a new home
