Have just moved house and decided to satrt in the garden with a tree or two. Have purchase An Acacia and a Catalpa (sorry can't remember varieties but have them written somewhere).
Has anyone any experience with there two - both are about 10 ft. high so I guess that they will slow down before putting on any height and am a bit concerned as to the hardiness of the Acacia.

Your right to be slightly concerned about the hardiness of the acacia, is it dealbata?
If so, I lost a young one the winter before last, so perhaps some protection for its first winter might be a good idea.
The catalpa is an easy grower and quite fast as well. It can, if you want, be hard pruned each winter to give you extra large leaves, but if you want flowers its best left alone.

Chobart,as far as the Acacia is concerned, once they are through their first winter outside they are usually fully hardy, and at 10ft tall I would say that yours has had more than 1 Winter outside. The Catalpa ( Indian Bean Tree) should also be fine. David.
