I hope to be moving in the next few months and while looking at the new place, I saw an area of ground that has been left to waste.
    Area to right of building

The area is approx 20ft x 6ft facing in a south west direction.
at the end is a compost area which I intend to tidy and keep using.
As for the project area, I'd love to turn it into a wildflower meadow type space and possibly a fruit tree or 2 apple/ plum/pear

As can be seen, the area is in partial shade by the building, fence and tree
Would the planting of wild flowers be an option?
I'm afraid I don't know the soil type but I'm guessing clay

This will be my first ever planting of anything so all help welcomed greatly

Welcome to GC Paul. I'm not sure 6ft is going to be wide enough for the crown spread of fruit trees. You could try growing espaliers against either the building or opposite fence.

There are buildings going up behind, are they likely to shut out the sun?

Obviously you will have to clear the area and prepare the soil but wild flowers are not that easy to establish. I can't see why they shouldn't grow there, so I can only suggest that you try them and see how successful they are. :)
