Didin't reallly know where to post this. I want to share some good news, I have changed careers from self employed gardener to Prestons new Community Food Growing Officer. I am employed by the wildlife trust (funded by all sorts of organisations) to pormote and help anyone in Preston to grow their own fruit and veg. Its a totally new role wide a pretty open remitt, pretty exiting I hope, I'm full of ideas but anyone with any suggestions as to how the community can come together to grow some food would greatly appreciated.

    Brilliant!

    A few random thoughts

Get in contact with the guys at Bovey Tracey Community Garden in Devon http://www.boveyclimateaction.org.uk/communitygardenApr09.xhtml

Google "communinity Gardens.. there's lots of projects... and the sort of people involved will want to help you!

Beg, borrow, steal or otherwise get control of any land you can ... and get the people involved.. people want to grow food... allotments are in such short supply.. so find out where the "waste" land is... and where the people are that want to grow things!

Your local media.. newspaper, radio.. love stories like this.. get them to work for you. get publicity... you want land.. and you want people to join in... the two just need putting together!

It's a great way of getting communities together

A lot of first generation immigrants come from rural places and are itching to get back to the land!

Ps.. I'm a wee bit jealous! Good luck

    thanks all.....

and quercus thanks for the bovey link that wasnt a project I was aware of, I shall have a look.

Have already started to scrounge, previouse employers being my first target. I write for a few local papers already, so as IK can find a 'peg' to hang the story IK now they will as you say be more than happy to help. I am also hoping to persuade the local council to give over some beddig space to food crops, and the local hospital to committ some space too.

Thanks again all, Ill keep you informed.
