Hi everyone, this is my first post.
My lawn needs to made level at one end by about 6" over 8 square meters. As the rest of it was very weedy and compacted yesterday I removed all the old turf. I plan to buy topsoil and and then lay new turf.
Now I'm confused. Should I put a weedkiller over the soil and leave before rotovating or not use any? Also should the new topsoil be rotovated to mix in with the old soil or just spread on top?
Job on hold, back aching, any advice much appreciated.

    Hi Ceeb

    Welcome to the forum.

If you've removed all the old turf, you won't need to apply any weedkiller to the bare soil. It wouldn't have any vegetation to work on.

Rotovating the new top soil to mix it with your existing soil sounds a bit drastic to me. You would then have to recompact the area thoroughly or it would be too puffy to lay your turfs on. I would just aerate the existing soil with a garden fork and then spread the new soil on top. Even so, you'll still need to compact it reasonably or the surface will settle unevenly and you'll have bumps and hollows everywhere.
