I'm going to lay a new lawn, with turf. I'm going to use 50mm of top soil. The problem is will the grass grow and the drainage be okay as the top soil will be laid on to a clayish surface with lots of stones mixed in?

depends on how compacted the clay is - if it's very compacted you'd do best to "un-compact" it! Use a border fork, or hollow-tined fork, and top-dressing mixture or just sand

the area is 110msq It has been raining lately and there has been puddles on the top left, but will the turf grow okay on top of the 50mm top soil. The clayish surface isn't completely compact together.
