I tried pressing "like this post" - is that the same as the old "Thanks"? There used to be a means of removing the "Thanks" - can't see how to do that for "like"

Date of my "liking the post" has come up in American format - is that just my settings?

I think I read that the "Thanks" was being worked on. Is the Thanks core coming back, or is that thrown away?

(The AJAX posting seems slower than the old system - I get a SPINNER appearing for longer than I remember the old system taking - might be just me though?)

** AJAX is where something happens on a web page without the whole paging having to be refreshed - typically a Spinner is displayed whilst the action is being performed, and then "part" of the page changes, rather than whole thing having to be sent as is more often the case on web sites.

Nice colour layout but on looking at threads TEXT HEADING is looking squint and out of line apart form that I like pleasing on the eyes.

    Ok Kristen.

Imo Gardeners Corner needed freshening up,it was becoming stale.....Yes there will be teething problems........they will get sorted.I guess it will take a bit of time though.

I guess you are worried about the long term detriment of GC.........but in my experience that won't happen ,these guys know what they are doing.......

    Thanks Roders.

Freshening up is fine. I may have views on it, but you can't please all the people all the time. Sometimes I like the way they redecorate the local pub, sometimes I don't, it still the same company and the same place to drink my beer :)

If redecorating gets new customers in that's good. (I'm all for anything that makes this place the best resource for gardeners, and works to the best way possible with Google et al).

This is not redecorating though, its a change of the udnerlying Forum software from vBulletin to MyBB. There will be lots of different types of data to move, so not a trivial task (although MyBB provide mgiration tools from vBulletin). It is critical that all the old links work (otherwise all the existing ranking in Google will be lost until Google re-ranks it, and that will take a while (usually around 3 months in my experience), and regardless of that all other inbound links (from blogs pointing to threads here etc) will just fail as the Blog owners are not going to go around changing all the links - so that traffic will be lost (unless the problem is fixable at GC's end).

Pretty important to get the other data right too. As it stands right now all user will have to go and set their options back to how they had them before and until they do so some of the settings may be undesirable - everyone's date of birth, for example, is shown on their profile. I definitely set mine to not show in the old system, in the new system they will show until the person changes their options to hide it. Personally I think that may upset some people.

My view on upgrades is known from previous upgrades here. It needs to be done right-first-time, or nearly so. From what I have seen so far there is plenty that is not right, and previous upgrades here do not fill me with confidence. Most of the things I have seen could have been found during a testing phase (and I've only had a quick look around, so unless Lady-Luck has enabled me to stumble upon all that there is to find in my quick look-see I would expect there to me more to be found)

I didn't know that an upgrade was in the offing as I would have been happy to volunteer as a beta tester [and I am happy to in the future if the need arises and folk want me to].

I will remain optimistic that things will be upright shortly :thumb:

Is there a list available? I think it would be helpful to the "regulars" if there was a bit of a "What's New" - if someone has a moment to put pen-to-paper so to speak :)

Just a quick query about the new format. I donated to the site a while ago and was under the impression that I had made a year's contribution. But now I've got the ads back. How come?
