    Hello all,

I was watering the garden and spotted these 'bugs' or possibly eggs or larvae on a bush in our garden. Lots and lots of them.
They almost look like a flatish black ladybird with a white substance between them and the plants.

    Hopefully a picture attached.
I would be grateful to know what they might be and do they need removing?

    Many thanks
    Neil

They look like Scale insects Neil ,a sap sucking insect.
Pick them off by hand and squash them.
Give the plant a feed and keep an eye out for more.

The white is a wax like substance which makes the bugs waterproof. Try spraying with a horticultural soft soap preparation. You could also try scrubbing them off with an old brush dipped in soapy water. Methylated spirits also kills them.
