    Hello,

I am new here and Love gardening, succesfully growing San Marzanos and garden design, I think my visits to italy really inspired me and now as i live alone have time to fill.

I love bay trees but they are so expensive so i have just purchased 10 seeds and wish to grow my own, has anyone got any good advice ? i have found if you google you get all sorts of ideas but i want to hear some advice from anyone who is in the know, can i keep them at a certain height is just one question apart from getting started, i am quite aware how some seeds just wont germinate unless under the right conditions.

    Thank you for any advice.

    Steven

Not sure about germination but if you look under any large bay tree there's always seedlings there. They grow well pretty much anywhere but be warned as they can become huge if planted in the ground and left unmanaged.
Once established, regular pruning will keep it in shape

    Be thinking of winter too.
Mine were decimated by the cold. One completely died back to bottom of main stem, now 2new shoots. The other had one small surviving branch.
I didn't cover them but will this year.
Just got one trained up to right shape now having to start again.
Look lovely when sorted though, don't let me put you off.

Thank you for you advice, I am looking forward to the challenge. The key thing i notice is to do your homework, some plants get killed off by ground frost, my Palm is dead so i cut it right down to a stump hoping it will grow back.

    Thanks again.

Won't be a problem after the tree has established so protect it a bit in the early years
