An old gardener but a new member.Trying out long raised
beds using decking boards I have tried 4 x4 with reasonable success in previous years but these new ones about12'x3'give more plot and less path.at present broad beans garlic, shallot & japanse onion seem to be doing well, but time willtell!

Welcome, Bristolpotman! So what do you do with your china pots? Plant things in them? Or are they the things you shove under your bed at night? :D

Thanks everyone for the messages of welcome! What a friendly lot you all are. I'm just thinking about a bit of early seed sowing and intend to experiment with newspaper pots. I've managed to cobble together a few from The Bristol Evening Post which seem to be o.k. but has any one got experience of these things either good or bad ? To me they seem to offer an inexpensive alternative to peat pots and enable planting on with minimum root disturbance. any comments most welcome.

Hi bpm...I make paper bags using a folding method featured in the Amateur Gardening magazine,I wish I knew how to draw the design on here to show you. My new greenhouse is home to several dozen with Sweetpeas in..and fingers crossed they will hold together [IMG] Reckon we're going to find out the hard way!
BTW..Nailsea glass work looks very interesting!
