Hi, I am a keen gardener and am currently studying for a National Diploma in Horticulture at Myerscough College. I would like to do a lot more with my garden although as I live with my parents, who are very protective of their garden, I am largely constrained as to what I can do so a large part of what I do and wish to do is restricted to containers. I have been searching for an allotment plot for a while now and I have recently come across one which should keep me busy for a while, I am willing to learn and appreciate any help and advice given to me.

Hi Alex and welcome to the forum. I wonder if you can use your allotment for flowers as well as veg?

Trust me I would, but I need to do some serious work on it before its up to standard as it is currently like a marshland!

Hi and welcome to the forum Cairnsypne.

You can grow lots of things in a container - 16 feet Echiums, Egyptian papyrus etc especially if you can protect them over the winter.

You can also grow things in other people's gardens. Ellen Willmot, a well known lady gardener, was famed for secretly scattering seeds of Eryngium giganteum in other people's gardens. E. giganteum is now known as Miss Wilmott's ghost. :hehe:

Thanks, I've actually been in your part of the world today looking at a degree course at Askham Bryan College and I was very impressed. I would get a plot there which would be a far more realistic solution that the plot I have proposed to take on!
