So, it appears that if a young mother who smokes, has an accident and needs medical treatment will be refused. The kids, I presume , will be put into care while the mother writhes about in pain and nothing is done. Please don't make this political, Cameron has just agreed with it. Opinions? Geoffhandley, as a considered response your input will be will be interesting [IMG]

My take is as follows, and Im afraid its political!

As long as they are a full uk tax payer (NOT AN IMIGRANT) then the NHS should give treatment smoker or not.

Just furthers my belief that cameron is a prize twit. Hopefully more mainstream conservatives will be alienated and now looking at a proper alternative UKIP.

Hmm. Yes I'll agree with the sentiments to a certain extent. But it's political. Not sure what UKIP is. I think they're all scum but none of them seem to address the things that are important. geoffhandley, have you gone asleep?

Its a very dangerous line to follow, as mgn says, where will the line be drawn.
Surely this is something for the European court of human rights to take on.
It sounds very much like descrimination to me.
Are we to assume that Heroin addicts etc. will still be treated?

I just think its "smoker bashing season" again folks, always is around this time of the year.

I dont smoke anymore but did for twenty yrs or more, the decision to stop was my own and no one elses. If it had been someone elses, then the chances are, I probably wouldn't have managed it.

Lets have some law and order instead, and stop pandering to the "wets" out there, that want to control our every move.

Cajary, UKIP The UK independance party slightly more right wing than the conservatives and if elected would sever ties with the EU.

Pro, the only thing that stopped me voting UKIP last time, was the fact that they wanted to reverse the smoking ban.

As this is about smoking, I'll say Portugal went non-smoking in all bars and restaurants as of yesterday. Children are permitted in virtually all bars and restaurants here, day or night, so a good thing.

The Portuguese are heavy smokers, both men and women although it's been tapering off a bit over the last few years, so it will be interesting to see how things go.

I vote we ban all sport where there is a possibilty of anyone (participant or spectator) getting hurt.

It could save the country some money, and at the same time make lots of people miserable.

The thing is Pete sport is not a mass killer, sport doesn`t kill the people watching it. I smoked for over 30 years but, like you, I gave it up because I wanted to. I gave it up because I no longer wanted to inhale smoke, I still don`t want to inhale smoke and that incudes other peoples. My wife, however, still smokes, though she is determined to give it up this year. And that is her decision not mine.

Sport has more health benefits than fatalities. Your argument is a real no-no Pete. It just isn't logical Captain. Mind you the guy that invented jogging died of a heart attack - whilst jogging. But he didn't take anyone with him. I have a right not to be poisoned for someone else's addiction.

I dont think we have to inhale other peoples smoke, that is the point.
There's a lot of time taken off work with sport injuries, and a recent case around here of a saturday footballer being airlifted to hospital with a broken leg.
Now that has got to be self inflicted.

A designated smoking room/area could easily be provided for those that want it, in pubs.
I dont see why they should have to go outside and stand in the wind and rain just to have a smoke.
We all have the opportunity NOT to enter a place if we dont want to.
In short if there's smoke in a pub and you dont like it go elsewhere, just as we have to with loud music etc.
