Delighted to have found this website. I planted a passiflora in a container on a terrace on top of the building just a few weeks ago. It's flowered amazingly from the start, but now some of the buds have just dropped off without opening, although there are still some which are flowering. Any ideas? Have we over- or under-watered? Is it too cold/windy?

    All advice appreciated.

jervis, dont really know could be a lot of things, at this time of the year. If its newly planted then sometimes they tend to find more root room and start to grow away like mad and perhaps drop some buds. Its all getting a bit late now anyway to expect too many flowers this year. [IMG]

Thanks, Pete - I was surprised to see it flowering when I bought it, as I thought it was a bit late. Even more amazed when it carried on after being settled into its new home! Just have to see what I happens over the winter months, I guess.

They do flower late, right up to the first frost, but with a plant that is newly planted things can be a bit different. If it comes through the winter OK I'm sure it wont dissappoint next year.

    Hi Jervis,
My Passiflora is about 2 yrs old at the end of it's first year i cut it back to about 5 inches from the base and it went absolutley nut's, it climbed onto every thing within reach, i will be cutting it back next sign of old jack frost.
Don't worry about watering, the cold or much else it's a lot hardier than you think, if my survives on top of a welsh mountain you'll will survive anywhere. good luck.

Sallyann, thanks for the reassuring message. The fourth-floor terrace certainly can't compete with a welsh mountain-top! I've just put some vermivulite over the top of the soil to help keep it warm and will leave it alone for now - it's still flowering away!
