    Hi everyone,
I would like to open up a discussion if possible to help me with a few ideas. I have a pond that requires planting around its edge and sides. Would anyone like to come up with a few ideas for me.

I have just finished repairing it and removing 2 cordylines (palm trees) from either side. I have irises, and a number of alliums which were growing around it still to be planted, so at the moment it has no plants around it. It is a rectangular shape with granite square setts surrounding it and has about 3 to 4 foot either side (short side) to be planted. The back side (long) has about 6 inches between it and a wall, and the front cannot be planted at all. Sorry I dont have a pic at the moment but hopefully you can give me some ideas. I was considering a japanese theme at either side, but I also have a couple of Box plants (about 18 inches in diameter) available to plant up. Would that work? Any ideas gratefully received
    Tommy

What about planting with short ornamental grasses with a Yucca or two thrown in the middle?

Short ornamental grasses come in yellow, red, blue and black. The yellow one, the name of which escapes me at the moment, looks very well in a pond setting. Ophio something or other.

Hi, the most recent Gardeners World magazine dated April, has a 4 page section on Pond-side planting by Joe Swift, some lovely plants.

Thanks everyone. Some great ideas. I have put the 2 box plants in the middle of each side, surrounded by tall irises at the back and side of the box plants, with shorter ones at the front and side nearest the pond. I love the grasses idea which I may put at the back of the pond, and put spring bulbs in between the clumps. There is also enough space in front of the irises to add some more plants. I must look at GW to see Joe Swifts ideas. Thanks again everyone for the responses.
