A new pound coin is being introduced in March 2017 and the current coin being phased out by the Autumn of the same year.

What do you think of it?

I rather like it :blue thumb:

HRH could have smiled a little;)

          • 12-sided - its distinctive shape means it stands out by sight and by touch
          • Bimetallic - The outer ring is gold coloured (nickel-brass) and the inner ring is silver coloured (nickel-plated alloy).
          • Latent image - it has an image like a hologram that changes from a '£' symbol to the number '1' when the coin is seen from different angles.
          • Micro-lettering - around the rim on the heads side of the coin tiny lettering reads: ONE POUND. On the tails side you can find the year the coin was produced
          • Milled edges - it has grooves on alternate sides.
          • Hidden high security feature - an additional security feature is built into the coin to protect it from counterfeiting but details have not been revealed.

00000000000000000000000000001348Talking of new currency. Apparently, you can remove details on the plastic fivers just with an eraser.

You do see a lot of counterfeit £1 coins these days - they seem to discolour and go blackish very quickly. How you use £1 counterfeits effectively is beyond me. What is the biggest item you can buy with them , possibly £20 max ? You can't buy a new car or a holiday in 1 pounds.
The new 12 sided one looks good - like the old threepenny joey from the 1960's . It is very secure against counterfeiting as it costs £1.17 each to make:snorky:

Well first off it is going to cost vending/gaming/parking machine operators a few million for new/adjusting coin acceptance
The new shape is useless against counterfeiting, as you do not need to copy the shape, just know the metal resistance, the current forged £1 coins are not for some granny to hand over for her sweeties, but for putting in vending machines, Six worthless coins for twenty cigarettes, twenty goes at a pub roulette wheel machine might win £100
(having said that the crude current ones stamped with heads ,tails and milled edge would not work on coin operated machines, they are the ones that keep getting rejected back to you frustratingly when trying to vend something)

The forthcoming issue of the new "shaped" coin is one of the reasons some of the major Superstores have stopped using shopping trolleys that require coins to use them. Otherwise it would have cost them a lot of money to change the coin locks on the trolley over to the new coin.:dunno::coffee::snorky:
