the semprevivum are indestructible , the aloe aristata can be hardy to -5/6 , but for succulent you should have dug all up and fill the bottom with gravel and then a mixure of sand , gravel , compost , grit and perlite , it need to be dry as possible .
    that mine

    Hi sal73,
Thanks for that advice maybe I will redo it as I have a week off! I like your little wall, did you build it? I would like to cover the metal that is behind the plants and to build it up behind would look good, by the way, i also have in this area Sanguineria (sp) but i have heard that they dont like to be moved? it is being shaded by the black grass now! any experience of them?

mine is not an alpine corner but more of a hardy cactus/succulent , which look really impressive .
Yes I`ve build the wall with some lime stome I had around , not a great work but does the job.
Always best move the Sanguineria in winter or delicatly if you move all the plant and the soil around the plant to the new spot.
there are many frost hardy cactus around if you like the look and want something new.
ps your black mondo grass look great.

Thank you , I`ve got really inspired by a trip in Thailand and that my little recreation , the pyrus didn`t do great this year has they need sunshine , as usually the reach 4/5 feet in one season , overall time ago I bought some nut grass from my local shop and then find out that it`s actually a frost hardy papyrus species.
