Hello all just wondering what people think of the new David Austin rose launched today?
I notice not much is said about scent but I do love the colour.
I am lucky to live not very far from their nursery so will be visiting soon and can smell it myself hopefully.

I think it looks very similar to Eustacia Vye, slightly darker pink maybe.

Disappointing, IMO. It's just yet another pink

Doesn't look particularly different to Eustacia Vye to me, just a bit darker, and with a light scent it doesn't even have fragrance going for it.

Getting a bit fed up of DA to be honest. No new climbers and no replacement for Munstead Wood or LEH, they all seem a bit samey for me now.

That said though, everyone on facebook seems to be raving about the new one, so maybe it's just me :dunno:

I haven’t seen it yet but do wish they would develop a robust replacement red for Munstead Wood. When I emailed and asked for a recommended alternative to MW all they suggested were ones which were definitely pinks

Someone else here who thought it looked very much like Eustacia Vye.

Are you looking for an "English Rose" style @Butterfly6 , because l don't think l've really seen one lately. The reddest rose l've seen in recent years was in a neighbour's garden and was called Royal William, but I think that's a hybrid tea.

I'm also not that enthusiastic, it looks much the same as some of their previous ones. Nice enough but not outstanding. I think DA have lost their way.

I have learned the hard way with DA roses that they need to be planted in pots and nurtured for a couple of seasons at least before going out into the borders.

I have a Munstead Wood I brought with me from Belgium but she's not thriving so may end up going back in a pot. I have a Graham Thomas - some say the best rose ever - but it didn't like life either in a pot or in the soil in my Belgian garden. I brought it with me as it was ina pot again and planted it out in a new bed against the ruin of the old farmhouse. He grew about 6 inches that first year so in autumn I planted a Pilgrim which has thrived just a few feet away.

Turns out Graham Thomas just needed some competition as he has now taken off. I'd never have planted those two yellows together if I'd thought GT was going to survive that next winter.

I have a Geoff Hamilton who persistently sends up shoots form his rootstock so every spring I now take him out of his pot and pull off those shoots before re-planting. Doesn't help so this year i'll take cuttings and when one of those grows I'll bin the parent.

DA seem to develop lovely roses and perfume but not on sturdy, reliable plants.

I love "Graham Thomas" @Obelix-Vendée , I first had one years ago not long after it was first introduced and it flowered so beautifully and was very healthy. After many years,if memory serves me right, it just gave up the ghost.

My husband bought me another one for my 60th birthday and it is just the same, the first buds of the year are just beginning to think about opening.
Not too far away from it is "Bring me Sunshine" that l bought in memory of my late Mum. This will be it's second year and it seems to be just getting going. It will be interesting to see how the newer introduction compares.

My neighbour's Royal William is too far away to sniff @Butterfly6 , but hopefully @wiseowl can confirm its perfume level. I might just get able to squeeze another rose in somewhere, although I've already planted another two this year .

Probably the only positive thing out of Chelsea  but like most of us, happy to wait for bare root season or pick up a bargain at a nursery at the end of the season.
