I just got 3 new roses rambling roses, I want to put one in a pot by the front door, only problem is that the pot I want to use has a rose already in it that isn't doing to good, I will be using new compost, whats the best way to clean the pot. Or would it be easier to go and buy a new one ?

I don't know what size the pot is but from bitter experience the bigger and heavier and deeper the planter the better and more stable the rose will be. An absolute minimum for a shrub rose for me is 50cm by 50cm by 50cm and i have yet to find a pot that will successfully hold any climbers / ramblers. I'm sure someone will advise further soon

Yes I agree with Hannah, rambling and climbing roses aren't going to be happy in pots.

Roses like to spread their roots and they are hungry and thirsty plants Ian. The plants will suffer in restricted conditions. Is there no available soil nearby that you can plant it in and perhaps train it towards your front door area?

All I can suggest is a small raised bed with as much depth as you can manage.
