    Hi All.

I've been searching the net for tips on gardening and came across gardeners corner, so I thought I'd join.

I am totally new to gardening. I want to have my own veg patch and my mum has said I could have a corner of our garden, but I don't know where to start. I know that I only want to grow things, that I know my family will eat and only want to grow enough for a family of 4, so that we don't waste anything.

I don't have a clue what to grow in what seasons etc, and I'd like to be able to make my own mini greenhouse thingy. I have some plastic sheeting and an old coffee table but don't if they'd be any use. I also thought about making raised beds out of some old wooden pallets that I got from a local scooter shop.

I would like to grow things such as potatoes, cabbage, carrots, onions, tomatoes, broccoli, lettuce and, peppers.

I'm going to browse the forums for any tips etc. but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Katie

    Hello Katie,

welcome from another relatiev newbie !

I'm also looking at veggie stuff - have a look down your local library for a good basic gardening book - that will help

Of your list - I don't think there's anything you can be starting planting now - probably best starting to prepare the groud - that's where most of my effort is going at the moment.

    Good luck

    Brian

    Hello Katie
Have a look at "The Kitchen Gardener" by Alan Titchmarsh. Very readable and easy to follow instructions for veg, fruit and herbs.
I grow quite a bit in those containers you get Grout, etc in. A few holes in the bottom for drainage, good compost and away you go. Carrots, parsnips, salad leaves have all done well.

What is the most played music to come out of Ilkley????

    Chas.
