Me again, sorry being a bit high maintenance at the mo!

Just got new turf about four weeks ago, has taken really well and grass is growing great however it is constantly flowering/seeding (if that's the word!)

I wondered whether this was a type of weed grass (meadow grass) or if it was supposed to do this and whether it might only do it at certain times of the year. I will be dissapointed if it is a weed as the whole turf is covered with it. I asked the guys who layed it what type of grass it was and they said general utility grass. Any ideas?

Yeah it definately looks like this first one.

Um it's so established it has covered the whole lawn - the turf was only laid about four weeks ago and the ground was prepared properly so must have already been in the turf - this is incredibly annoying considering the amount it cost us to have a new lawn laid . The whole point being that we wanted a nice new lawn with no problems. It seems that it has more weeds than the last one!!

weeds are easy to get rid off .if you dont mind using a selective weedkiller! poa is a pain most lawns have them,,i would thought it vey unlikely any reputable turf supplier would send out turf with poa in it ,,

Thanks Gerkin! I can only assume in the turf as never had it before and within a couple of weeks of being laid the entire lawn was covered in it.

I tried scarifying and mowing though it is still there and now the grass (and nothing to do with drought) is starting to look quite brown which I assume is the meadow grass. I am really gutted as I expected to have a nice lush green lawn after paying £800 for a landscape gardener to lay it. The best laid plans and all that!!! I trust my garden implicitly and do feel that he prepared the ground properly. When I said weeds it is really only the POA oh and mushrooms which the turf started growing after about a week!

I have fed one half (I have lawn each side of the grass) with Aftercut and will see if it improves at all and do the other half if so. Are there ant weed and feed mixes you would recommend. I assume the meadow grass will probably just benefit from the feed?

Thanks again for your help [IMG]

Could be, it's hard to tell the difference but think it is more like poa annua.

It's like everything in gardening - you wish you'd done some research beforehand and specified what type of turf you wanted. I'll know for next time. Like my favourite quote...

Just read this article - wonder what these herbicides are and if I should try them?

Thanks Stingo, yes I am going to contact my gardener today. After returning from holiday after 10 days the entire lawn is covered in seedheads and therefore I can only assume it is a self seeding lawn type and the actual turf is a type of meadow grass, as nothing could have established itself so quickly. I am going to ask the gardener to find out exactly what grasstype it is so I can figure out how to best care for it.

I would definately check out where your gardener got his turf from and would suggest to him not to use this in future as he will be getting more unhappy customers. As the turf is only been down for 4 weeks it may not be the best time to sort, but regular mowing should help. I would then in the Autumn use a good weed and feed. Or alternatively, you could get him to redo the lot again using a better turf. I hope you get this sorted.
