Clever idea. I can see people worrying about having personal details so easily accessible but then those details are needed quickly and easily in emergencies. I'd use it if I had a car. :)

Name, DOB, address (optional), photo (so they could tell they have the "right" casualty) ...

.... Hmmmm! Don't think they have really thought this through  ...

.... could all lead to Identity Fraud
Theft of tax discs from cars was a good money spinner with certain citizens ... just imagine how much more they could earn from having your name and DOB with (optional!) address/photo ;)
Sure, having access to someone's medical information in an emergency would be very advantageous. Not so sure this is the route to go with it though.

I think its a good idea in principle, and could be made good with a bit of thought, but I agree with "M" about the security aspect of it.

Besides, my missus sometimes leaves our house keys in the glove box when we go out. As it is now, someone pinching my car would create an inconvenience. Even if they found the house keys in there, they'd have no idea which house (or even in which town or county) they belong too. It would be a whole different story if we advertised our address in there too.

I'm surprised it was actually the POLICE that came up with this idea:th scifD36:

In this day and age the only info required, in case of emergency, apart from if you have existing health problems, is a phone number.
Surely people with long term health problems carry the correct info on their person.

Agreed: I think most of them possible do.

But, the "pro" argument is probably that ... RTC's are not isolated simply to people with long term health issues and can happen to any one, in a vehicle, at any given time: ergo knowing who you are, your next of kin, how to contact them should speed things up a bit (which could make a difference to being given the correct emergency medicine - life or death). Having a pre-defined medical condition merely add emphasis to that.
Consider you have long term health problems and you wear a bracelet/talisman necklace/carry a donor card/carry about your person some other means of information which could prove vital in an RTC scenario (allergy to penicillin/taking Warfarin etc.. The italics emphasis a key point: it is about your person. In an RTC situation, it is not always easily accessible in comparison to say, the folded paper in the tax disc holder. The person could be trapped. The person may be in such a situation that a bracelet/necklace/wallet cannot be reached.

I do understand the concept behind the initiative and I can see that it has certain merits (as outlined in the above paragraph). However, I don't think it has been properly thought through by the very people who have a responsibility to think these things through - and from all angles!

As I said, just the phone number of you next of kin.

I must admit the last place I would put my personal details is in a place for all to see. We nearly all carry enough relevant I.D. of some form for Emergency Services to handle most situations. I know we have Facebook, etc, etc where a lot of people seem quite eager to post their personal details to whoever is interested, for whatever reason, but that just seems a bit "dangerous" to me. I've got a feeling that whoever was the person who's details you'd put on the Emergency Contact Information Disc for all the world to see they would not thank you for any possible malicious or strange phones they got.:dunno::snork:
