    Hi all,

Excited to join the community. I have been growing veg for a long time with varying success, I have lurked on a number of gyo sites and picked up hints and tips along the way.

I have had a Halls wooden 6x4 green house for 10 years (used on and off) and yesterday received an aluminium 6x6 gh (still in pieces) from a relatives house move. I have my Halls set up for propagation and just chilli peppers and strawberries growing as plants in there mostly. I plan to set up the aluminium one for growing properly in. We have 3 Labrador dogs and artificial grass so everything is in “dog proof” containers, am looking forward to having real “beds” to grow in.

Thinking I might try square foot gardening in an upside u shape along the sides and back of the gh, giving me 7 x 2x2 beds with a 2x4 path in the middle. Any suggestions and advice would be greatly received.

    Thanks for reading.
    Tink

Good morning Sheal, thank you for your reply. We have been here for 16 years, moved from Maldon (another lovely village). Over the years we have had thick snow in March and heatwaves in April, but I expect everywhere could say that these days. No more changes of season that I remember from my childhood. Just makes gardening more of a challenge

LOL.. Alas no, it used to be but not at the moment it looks like a jungle, but with the help of the wonderful people on this forum, seeing as I don't know what I am doing, I will change that given a bit of time.

              Kindest regards to you

I was reared in the Southend-on Sea area and after spending seven years in Colchester gradually moved north bit by bit. I moved to Scotland four years ago.

There's no knowing what the weather is up to these days. I can remember some long snowy winters as I was growing up and dry, hot summers. Up here in the Highlands winters are much warmer with a lot less snow now.

              Welcome to GC :dbgrtmb:

I've just driven past you (twice) on the A12 and A120 as I had to go up to Walton to pick something up. I did wave but don't think you saw me! :heehee:

Hello Sheal, what a small world it is. We have had many a thought of moving to Scotland, when watching “This Farming Life” we do always say, “shall we?” But it is the weather that makes us think again. I doubt if I could grow what I do here in Colchester way up there, but maybe by what you now say about the climate changes we could.

I’ll be watching your posts with anticipation now!!!

                Have a good day.
                Tink
