Hi all! In August, my husband and I moved into a ground floor flat in an old Victorian house that has a huge garden behind it, all for our use! Unfortunately, none of the past several tenants have been gardeners and it is completely overgrown. The neighbor whose garden juts up behind ours says that in the 8 years he's lived in his house, he's never seen anyone working in ours. Quite the challenge, to say the least.

We have basically decided to do it in thirds - we cleared out the first third last autumn for planting this year, and soon will start on the next third for planting next spring, etc. We uncovered a number of really lovely plants in the process of clearing out (including two rose bushes), so we're also moving those things about. It's really quite good fun.

Looking forward to being here and learning from all you experts!

Sounds like you'll have fun with this garden. Make sure you take plenty of photos so you can do a compare and contrast, before and after. Its very satisfying to look at all your hard efforts and see what a difference you have made.

Thanks everyone! It is good to be here, and you're right - there's a wealth of information just perfect for those of us starting out.

Sussex, will try to remember to take photos (not usually a problem) and maybe post a progression somewhere. . .
