You'd never guess from the user name, would you? :)

Hello, I'm Beth and the bloke over there is Steve. We've just moved into a lovely wee bungalow in Grange-over-Sands and are needing to take control of the garden. To be fair it's been kept in fairly good order and I'd describe it as having an air of faded glory about it.

Historically I've loved spending time in my garden but have never really figured out how it all worked, which was fine as we've never really had anything particularly tricky before. However we've now inherited lots of lovely plants and stuff and I don't want to screw up! Foodwise we've inherited: apples (at least 5), gooseberries, raspberries, quince, wild strawberries, rhubarb and wild garlic (think it crept in from the woods over the lane, but it smells *fabulous*!). To that we've so far added peas, beans, outdoor tomatoes (inside at the moment till they're tough enough) and assorted herbs. We've also inherited assorted flowers, though most things other than the daffs and primroses are a bit of a mystery to me, and we've transplanted a few beloved things from our old garden - a daisy like magnolia (probably has a proper name but lord knows what that is :what: ) and a pieris.

I've found untold help on the internet in the past (I even found a husband on a motoring website, but that's a different story! :wub2:) so I'm hoping this place will be equally as friendly and welcoming. Apologies in advance for all the dumb questions I'll probably ask, but if you don't ask, you don't learn!

    Cheers!

Hello Bellis. I hope you will be very happy in your new home.
Sounds like you inherited the basis for a good garden.
My house has a name which refers to a daisy - in Scotland it's a gowan.
