    I visited Newby Hall outside Ripon today - last day RHS members can get in free!

    In the summer the long border (and this is only half the length) is very fine. But there was virtually nothing out today. I think N Yorks is about 55 weeks behind you soft southerners!

    But this made up for it - Sylvia's garden. Alliums, a lot of Argyranthemums, Iris, various Geraniums, and even Nemesia, which had overwintered!

    There were plenty of Hostas - but not a single slug hole. I asked why and they said they didn't have any slugs. They didn't use slug pellets, they just had sandy well drained soil and plenty of birds about.
