I dont know how everyone else has done 'up north' this year, im just pulling my first lettuce and courgettes, and my toms have just set and are starting to fatten up. Im thinking of planting the majority of my tom seeds & some others a month earlier than the packet says to, especially with my peppers which have done nothing. Has anyone else had this problem and do you think I will be planting things too early? (to grow in a mini greenhouse)

I am oop north in Leeds. Courgettes have been great and picking for last two months after April sowing. Bad case of mildew now however. I have had green tomatos for about 3 weeks with no sign of any getting ripe any time soon! I have some chilli peppers in my mini greenhouse (which I keep open). loads of small green chillis on them but nothing looking vaguely ripe. hoping this weekends sunshine will speed things up.

Not too bad here in Newcastle, flowers are blooming a bit later than normal, the tomatoes in my hanging baskets have been going red for a few weeks, so definatley the same one's next year, flowerewise, the few buzy lizzies i planted turned black and died :( except these, Orchid Buzylizzies, I'll stick with these next year i think :thumb:

    You are not alone.:(
I have lost most of my courgettes to mildew.
The tomatoes are just beginning to turn red but I have more green then red even now.
Dug up the potatoes and it was a poor harvest although what I have got tastes just divine.
Spinach and brocolli looking like something is eating it and I can't see any caterpillers.
I feel like have have grown a lot of stuff just for the bugs to eat this year.

Next year I will try harder and be more vigilant.:thumb:

Hi AndyK. I would stick with the times given on the packets. I think most would say that this year has been pretty bad, all in all. Sure, some crops have done really well, but those that require the warmth and sunshine have struggled, at least, that's what I've found. Stick with it and just put it down to experience :thumb: Cheers...freddy.
