    Copied from the BBC,
The Institute for Fiscal Studies and Health Foundation said the NHS would need an extra 4% a year - or £2,000 per UK household - for the next 15 years.

What's with this, per household stuff.
I'm only a one person household.

WHY NOT COME UP WITH A FIGURE PER PERSON?

    Who writes this rubbish?
    As Eric Morecambe would say:biggrin:

That would be no good either, as it would include our elderly, bedbound/housebound neighbours in their 80's and 90's, struggling to manage on their pensions, would they be expected to suffer a big tax hike on their pensions? Or would our student daughter be expected to pay take on her student loan?

I guess the only reason they produce these nonsense amounts, rather than approximate increases for taxpayers giving examples for income bands is that it would be far too scary.

The nhs is a money pit.
Bring back cottage hospitals to care for the elderly. Keep the nhs for critical care. Lifestyle health issues need addressing by taxing the foods that cause the damage and make people more responsible for their own heath.
If people still want to spend more on the nhs bring in an nhs tax. You want more you pay more.

Just that it gives the impression that the charge should be added to something like council tax, rather than income tax.

Surely cottage hospitals, not heard of one of those since I was a kid:biggrin:, were funded by the NHS, the elderly need nursing homes, a lot were shut down a few years ago by stupid regulations regarding buildings regs.
As to food, I really dont agree about taxing food, people make their choices, and in moderation there is no problem, why should we all pay for those that can't control themselves.

Your right taxing food isnt ideal but something needs done. Reducing sugar in drinks, reducing fried chicken shops, making chocolate bars chocolate again instead of being mostly sugar would be a start.
Maybe fruit n veg should be sold at cost price and the retailer makes the money up on readymeals etc? Who knows, but somethings needs doing.
As long as they dont mess with my crisps :ccheers:
