    I wonder if this topics view counter will race away? :snork:

    I thought I would give Melons a try, see if they grow reasonably this far north and I am delighted with results thus far. Some of the vines are over 6 foot long now and I have around 5 fruit growing over 3 plants, these are the two biggest.

    They have not really had the care and attention they should have as it was just a spur of the moment trial, but next year will be a different story altogether

        I have tiny flowers and nothing more on my 3 melon plants. Even if I just get one reasonable sized fruit I will be chuffed.

            Well @ Silu even my double 'f' wouldn't be big enought for those lovely melons! :heehee:
            What else shall I add....anything more than a handful is a waste :heehee:

            @Steve R You have done very well to grow those :dbgrtmb:.

              I'm saying nowt:whistle::biggrin:

              They're brilliant Steve, what variety are they? I saw Monty plant some in a hot bed a few weeks back on GW and it got me thinking I'd like to give them a go next year...if I'd have thought sooner this year would have been perfect growing in East Yorkshire because it really has been sweltering thus far.I haven't really got the space but you know me where there's a will there's a way:dbgrtmb:

              Keep us posted for the taste test:thumbsup:

                Well that's spooky, just brought the first one home today! Will try it later on.

                I've had a few that rotted due to how I grew them, so it has been a learning curve for next year.

                It's only a diddy bop and I have no idea of variety.

                Steve...:)

                  Well that was delicious, definitely growing again next year. But will probably grow in a different manner as these where just allowed to do as they wished.

                  :biggrin:Brilliant stuff! :blue thumb:

                  Ive had to pull 2 of mine off as they had also rotted. Not sure what size these will grow to. Theyre just lying on the ground. They originally started off in the back garden in buckets, but became to big along side everything else, so i took them to the lottie & theyve also been left to their own devices:huh: So far so good though I'll be pleased with just getting a taste :biggrin:

                  If you can, Canny, put something under the fruit to stop the soil contact. A piece of slate or a tile etc.

                  Steve...:)

                    Same way you choose a melon in the supermarket, smell it. It will smell sweet and feel ripe when lightly squeezed.
