Hello weed. The biggest failure for Amaryllis not blooming is that they are planted too deeply and kept under the wrong conditions in a house.

I am fortunate to be able to grow them outside here so don't give them any special treatment.

That is a good link from Has Bean Counter.

    Good luck!

    Hi Vicky :)

A friend in West Ireland (Co Mayo) grows them outside all year round. We were over there a couple of years ago in September and they were blooming away in a pot outside her garage. She says she never brings them indoors. She must have a micro climate where she lives!

I would imagine West Ireland benefits from the warmth brought in by the gulf stream, as does Cornwall and parts of the west coast of Scotland. In Heligan Gardens in Cornwall they have several acres of tropical stuff growing outdoors. Granted its sheltered by being in a valley but still, it's quite odd to see a forest of palm trees and unusual orchids in Britain.
