Moved in to my partners grandma bungalow a year ago with an acre of land majority at the back. Large lawn but overgrown pond (which i really want to keep with goldfish in) The front garden has well established plants and fruit trees but it completely overgrown with nettles and ground weed of some sort. We are struggling to even get this part of the garden under control. Does anyone know of a good book to use a bible to help learn about gardening or where i should go from here? HELP!!!!!

Both parts of the garden are vrey well established including canes at the back of thegarden but everything is so overgrown. Growing up without a garden my knowledge of gardening is non existant.

I would skip the book and just ask questions here - you'll get answered targetted at the specific problems you have (but the old saying goes something like "Ask two gardeners and you'll get three opinions!")

For nettles and tall grass, and maybe some brambles too, that have run amok I would hire the modern equivalent of an Allen Scythe for the day. If its an area that is not big enough to get a piece of machinery into then I would use a Weed Eater (forgotten the correct term, but its a grown-up version of a Strimmer - using a metal blade in place of a bit of nylon cord)
