My passiflora is dead-looking and some dahlias which were left in the ground over winter are not showing any signs of regrowth. I know they are all probably dead, but should I give them a bit longer before digging them up/out? What do you think?

I'd give the Passiflora a couple of months, it may well re-shoot, they are hardier than we think. Sorry, the dahlia's are probably finished!

Leave the dahlias a bit longer. I've got at least three that survived the winter. The shoots often come up late and I end up stabbing them with the fork when I forget they're there. You may be lucky!

I once had a passiflora that had the main plant killed one winter but around June time the following year lots of suckers shot up from the roots....

I agree both could yet shoot.

Especially the passion flower if it was an established P. cerulea.

I think with Dahlias, its usually rot around the neck that finishes them off.

I would leave them in longer too, it is just the dry weather, see the sunflower germination thread.
I put some dahlias in this year, half of them have still to show.
My red hot pokers haven't shown at all.
