Today I got a bit of shock - heard running beastie, and sliding beastie above my head on the sloping part of the bathroom ceiling. Wasn't sure whether it was in the roof space, or on the roof itself - so summoning my courage I got out the ladder and a torch and took a look - no sign of movement or noise of fleeing beastie whilst peering through the trap.

My logical mind says - if it (presumably squirrel) was in the roof space I would have heard scrabbling - rather than running and sliding beastie (thinking of joists and insulation) - and it would be heard a lot more than the couple of minutes I heard it until I made some noise - and would recurr, which as far as I am aware it has not.

Anyone had a squirrel in their roof space - and can describe what it sounds like?

We had such a noise in the suspended ceiling in the corridor of our operating theatre!!! (No-one seemed to take it seriously except me). But I called the maintainence guys and they explored what they could of the area. It was a pigeon taking refuge from the icy winds! By the time they managed to get close to it, it had decided to exit on its own. But that sounded like little feet running tip-tap, tip-tap across the ceiling, though I would have sworn it was a four legged beastie!

Thanks MD. Could be one of the jackdaws that nest in one of my chimney - but there was no sign or sound of a bird when I looked into and round the roof space from the top of ladder clutching torch. And looking round the fascia boards, I can't see any holes. Happened again this afternoon - that running sliding noise - stopped after I made a noise and didn't recurr.
