Has anybody got any of these or know anything about them?

We popped into a new little nursery near us today and they had these plants - the label said so:rolleyes:. The thing is, they were the most amazing colours, bright orange, yellow, red. absolutely stunning!

Think I am talking hubby into buying a couple even though I've tried to grow everything from seed this year & he thinks I have too many pots. I just don't have many flowers through so the garden is mainly 'green'. I do so love these colours.

Thing is, is it a bit late to be buying them if they are annuals or are they perennials? If I get a couple will I be able to get seeds from them to propagate next year?

    Thanks.

They're tuberous begonias, and they can flower almost non stop throughout winter in a lit greenhouse.

Outside I believe they'll flower up until the first frosts, so you should be pretty safe.

Borrowers, I have grown 4,500 (from plugs) for the parks and roundabouts here and many are still to be planted so it's not too late for you to pant. They should last until the autumn/winter frosts and can be lifted and stored in a shed or similar, ones that have been left in the ground have survived the recent mild winters and have regrown. They can be grown each year from the corm provided you have heat to start them of in the spring as they are perennial.:)

I started tuberous begonias under the kitchen table two years ago (it was the only frigging place I had in the old small flat), so go for it, they can last a long time.

:thumb:Thanks everyone. I'm going to get some defo, just have to slowly start nagging:D Aren't they lovely?

ivory - I know what you mean, any space will do:D. I now have my windowsills back:D

strongy - i haven't noticed them in public places round here, or not those colours. I must admit when i'm driving i am a bit blind, not literally:D Although, strangely enough:rolleyes: I am starting to look at all the plants & flowers. Funny how that happens when you get into gardening, isn't it?:D

swanseadel - haven't a greenhouse but can lift & store them, so I'll just have to have a few months without them (well ok maybe 5 up here:D)

Will take piccy when i have them to show you what colours i have gone for. Do they need full sun? Or will mainly sun do?

    Thanks again.

    cheers

Full sun is fine B, though they will tolerate shade.:)
