North facing wall climber.... Clay sub soil

Hi, I am looking for a decent climbing plant to climb about 8ft. Shaded north facing wall with clay subsoil.

Any ideas?

Some types of Clematis will be happy, I forget which, probably C. montana 'coz that's a thug!

 

I've got a Chaenomeles on a North facing wall and it hasn't let me down yet!

 

Great stuff thanks for your replys. I'm looking to create a screen / obstacle from a public footpath. For that reason I think the Montana is the best option, any other alternatives?

 

I have a number of honeysuckle growing on a north facing wall and a clay soil with varying degrees of success. The best is Lonicera japonica "Halls Prolific" with pale yellow flowers. Currently flowering well and the scent is lovely on a warmish evening.

 

Yes, Honeysuckle does very well here.
