Hi all, i live in a cottage that is not really very pretty so i am putting plants in containers around to make it look nicer, but the front of the cottage faces directly north and gets no sun. Is there a plant I could put in a container against the wall that would look OK and survive. I am unable to put anything in the ground there. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

    Thank you

    Harry

I've got a similar situation with a NE facing patio which is partial (left side) to full (right side) shade. I'm clearing and cleaning it ready for ferns, hostas and heucheras in containers in various places. Heucheras in particular have a gorgeous range of colours in their foliage - purples, silvers, reds, chocolates - which I hope will add bright accents and lift the feel of the patio. Good luck with your wall! (You might be able to do a container-with-trellis and have a climber?)

Hi Anzia, thanks for that, yes, climbers are what I want, I don't want anything on the wall so I had thought that I would make a box with trellis. What do you think would be suitable?

It was a while ago that I looked at climbers so my memory is a bit hazy but I *think* that ivy, Virginia creeper, honeysuckle and clematis were all ok for North facing walls/shade. I'm going to need one on the side of the garage at some point!
