Lovely to meet you all! I have gardened from my childhood when I had my own little plot and also helped my dad for pocket money (3d to hoe a row of veg and it had to be done properly!) I garden on a corner plot in an 80's semi and have grown mostly ornamentals with one raised bed for veg but since retiring have been incorporating more and more edibles among the flowers. I promise myself I will make the garden more labour saving as I get older but not quite yet. In our damp climate I get lots of snails which hide in the Cornish hedge down one side of the garden so I have been growing salads in containers which are easier to protect. Haven't had to buy any lettuce this year yet I'm pleased to say.

Thanks all for the welcome. I am in the St. Austell area so have the benefit of being near the sea though not on the coast. We still get the occasional frost though and winds. The Beast from the East finished off a seedling peach I had on my garage wall. When we moved in 23 years ago the garden was nearly all lawn and we (mostly my long suffering husband) double dug it, finding basically clay and builders' rubbish including lumps of lead and concrete. No lawn now just plants and 23 years of mulching with home made compost have greatly improved the clay although I never have enough compost. It's not a huge garden, I would love a bigger veg plot, but it keeps me busy!
