Hoping to soon! Two years ago I planted a row of lavenders at the edge of the patio-the idea being for them to grow into a lovely scented lavender hedge. However the plants don't have enough root space to develop properly and I think the plants I got are not the compact variety, but huge monsters-in summer the flowers can reach 4 feet!

So....I have decided to remove them all this autumn/winter and build a raised bed with bricks. It won't be very high, probably only 3 bricks in height. The intention is to fill it with culinary herbs and tumbling, low growing creepers (eg campanula). This will mean I can finally free up my borders from all the herbs dotted amongst them and get down to business filling the gaps with MORE perennials:D

Just thought I'd share. Watch this space, hopefully I will remember to keep you all informed of how things go.

Hi Sussexgardener. Beware the Campanula ! I THINK it's what I had growing at my last house, and it spread everywhere ! It became a right nuisance and we had to constantly try to keep it down. Just thought I'd mention it :thumb: Cheers...freddy.

I have it already and yes, it grows like a weed. But I love it and I've found that if you cut it back HARD after flowering you can keep it under control, just!
