Not sure, but is this a Dipelta??

    Hi, I've been browsing through shrub expert to identify this shrub so that I know how to look after it, could you let me know if it is this and if not what it is.... Thanks :)

    It's a Weigela Apple Blossom. :)

    Brilliant ....do you know I was determined to find it and I looked at the weigela..but thought no.... As the leaves were not the same as shown in the book.... At least now you have confirmed it for me I can have s read up on what to .... To which it says ... Cut back shoots which bear faded blooms immediately after flowering.... Good job I didn't hack it to death during autumn/ winter :heehee:

      It could be a Dipelta, Apple Blossom! They're closely related to Weigela. One way to tell which you've got is to look at the older, woody stems. If the bark is peeling off in papery strips, it's a Dipelta. Same pruning treatment, though:)

      Hi again, That looks much more like Weigela, Apple Blossom. Dipelta would be smoother, light brown and peeling.

      Looking in my book they do look so much alike so thanks both for your help :blue thumb: I'll prune it as instructed and hopefully next year it will have a lovely show as I don't think its been touched in a few years!
