There is a bird in the flue from my wood burner - it's an offset flue so it won't come down to the stove and escape from the open door and clearly isn't able to fly out the top.

How can I help it - it sounds so distressed?

Rest assured we haven't lit the stove since April and have no intention of doing so until October....

Thats a bad situation, I'd try shutting the room door and not use that room for as long as possible, to see if it will come down of its own accord, leave the window open and hope.

    Hi sq,
We had a bird down our chimney a few years ago and I called the RSPB, who then (even though the gas fire wasn't connected) made us get in touch with the gas company.

After a little while the gas man(!!) got the bird, which was still alive and released it. Apparently., if the bird was dead it would have cost us??????????

So my advice would be to phone the RSPB or local rescue centre. The poor bird must be boiling alive (not literally I know) in there in this weather. AT least they should be able to offer some advice.

    cheers
