the people two doors up have had a few friends round and along with a few beers and a Karaoke machine and have killed songs all day and all evening my daughter lives in between me and them and she couldnt get the kids to settle having been in bed since 7pm and i knocked just before 9pm ( we can hear the noise from in our house mind ) so i went round and asked them to turn it down a little so the little ones could get off to sleep, she has gone ballistic and phones the police saying that i am discriminating against her cause she is a traveller

If she is a traveller, suggest that she travels a little way away from everybody else and then she can be as noisy as she likes. Problem solved.

That's not nice kaz. Don't get mad get even. You should ring the council now and get them to come out because of the noise nuisiance. Do you think the noisy neighbour is in a council house or getting housing benefits? If so they will be breaching their rental terms with their anti-social behaviour.

private rent and if the last tenants are anything to go by the land lord doesnt care what they get up too, but def getting housing benefit, none of the previous tenants have lasted that long and even though the bailiffs and the law were around often they didnt actually bother anyone,

I have nothing at all against travellers. They regularly pitch up for a few weeks at a time on waste land not too far from us, and then earn their keep by collecting scrap or doing general labouring jobs etc.

What really, really bugs me though is when you get people settled in brick houses, who then play the 'traveller' card whenever somebody challenges their behaviour. As if being a traveller gives more or less rights anyway.

          Nnnrgghh,

Wish I was nearby with a bit of sound equipment to set up a feed back loop amplifying their noise & throwing it back to them. Only way they could stop that is by stopping the noise in the first place.

Dave's right, if they are in a house they are no longer travellers, they have just down graded to scumbag.

growing up I knew many TRUE travellers and one of the mothers always told me if you have a problem with ME and/or MINE and you have the balls to knock my door to tell me then you deserve the same respect back to you, and i will sort it, she said it was like a code of conduct thing , they dont like authorities and legals but one mother to another now thats different ...... I guess that has changed to lol as it was her that phoned the law !

Don't sink to their level. I'v done it countless times and it never works, only makes things worse. Talking to them usualy helps, but as you've already do this go through the correct channels. Contact the council, they usally have a noise nuisance phone number which is open throughout the night. Contact the letting agents of the property, they will then inform the landlord, who I'm pretty sure if responsible for their tennants and the acts they commit on their property.

so am i brave /stupid enough to go knock or do i hope that's it over and done, i dont want her thinking that i am scared of her because in my experience that will make her behaviour worse, i just want to settle the air, showing her at the same time the fact that she is a traveller is irrelevant to me, so ? do I or dont I ?

Thats too bad Kaz.....myself, i would approach her again, maybe in the morning when she's sober, tell her you "want to clear the air", and tell her that you have no problem with her "lifestyle", its the loud music later at night when they are kids in the neighborhood that are trying to sleep.

Maybe if she has all the kids, school will be starting soon, and they'll get into a routine.

If it continues, document it, record it, so you can pass it along to the council (?)

Good luck and keep us posted.
